Summer Afternoons on the Lawn in Cohasset 1900-1920s

  • Cohasset Historical Society 106 South Main Street Cohasset, MA, 02025 United States (map)

Step back in time with the Cohasset Historical Society’s new exhibit, Summer Afternoons on the Lawn in Cohasset: 1900s–1920s. This showcase highlights the elegance of summer social fashions through the Society’s Costume and Textile Collection.

At its heart are the iconic white “lingerie dresses,” crafted from airy fabrics like cotton lawn and muslin, adorned with delicate lace, embroidery, and ruffles. These dresses reflect shifting styles from the Edwardian era’s modest silhouettes to the bold, modern flapper look of the 1920s.

Explore how changing social norms, World War I, and the rise of ready-to-wear fashion influenced summer attire. From the poise of the Gibson Girl to the freedom of the Roaring Twenties, this exhibit captures the beauty and evolution of seasonal style.

Join us to experience how fashion adapted to the times while embodying the charm of leisurely summer days in Cohasset.

Open Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM
